Laikipia residents banned from carrying weapons

Ban on individuals carrying a wide range of weapons including knives, and an assortment of other weapons has been issued in towns and shopping centers in Laikipia County.

According to County Commander of Police John Nyoike, the ban comes into force and anyone found with such items will risk being arrested and prosecuted in court.

The county commander issued the ban during a security sensitization meeting held at Maundu Meri village in Laikipia North, a meeting the was also attended by County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri, Laikipia North MP Sarah Lekorere, and local community leaders.

County Commissioner Joseph Kanyiri said it was prudent for parents to look for better ways of bringing up their children, in order to enable them effectively compete with their peers in the job market.

Speaking at the same time, Laikipia North Member of Parliament Sarah Lekorere and Laikipia West officer in charge of the National Police Reservist Simon Eturen called on the government to increase the number of National Police Reservist in the troubled areas to help boost security patrols and tackle emerging crimes.
