It is a big reprieve for hundreds patients from Kajiado County who had to travel for long distances to seek blood transfusion services as Kajiado county government launch the first blood transfusion centre.
The modern new blood centre, within Kajiado referral hospital, have the capacity to store 600 units of blood, enough to be shared to five Sub county hospitals.
Over the years, patients requiring blood transfusion services had to be referred to neighboring counties for the services incuring an extra cost both for the county government and the patient
When launching the centre Kajiado governor Joseph ole Lenku reiterate d his administration commitment to improve the services of the Kajiado referral hospital.
KANU leader Gideon Moi who graced the occasion said Kajiado has set a standard that ought to be emulated by other counties.
Kajiado Central MP Elijah Memusi said the new blood bank will be savior to most Kajiado patient’s especially expectant mothers with complications.
He said in the past years, some patients had lost their lives due to the lack of blood transfusion services.
He also encouraged locals to donate blood to make the new centre effective.
